Side-by-Side Candidate Comparison in the Riding of Ponoka - Didsbury

In June 2021, this MP rightly voted in favour of pro-life Bill C-233, introduced by Conservative MP Cathay Wagantall, to outlaw the horrific practice of sex-selective abortion, in which unborn babies are killed for no other reason than their sex.

Also in June 2021, this principled MP voted against Justin Trudeau’s parental prosecution bill, C-6, which seeks to put parents in jail up to 5 years if they dare to affirm their gender-confused child in their biological sex.

MP Calkins has a perfect voting record in the House of Commons on life & family issues. However, in a past interview, he stated that he believes abortion should be permitted in some instances; will consult with his constituents and vote according to their wishes on a private members bill.

CLC was disappointed to see this pro-life MP endorse the pro-abortion, 2020 Conservative Leadership candidate Peter MacKay, especially when there were two strong pro-life candidates in the race, MP Derek Sloan and Dr. Leslyn Lewis, behind whom all pro-lifers needed to rally.

Grant was an openly pro-life contestant in the 2022 Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) Leadership Election, but was disqualified on a questionable technicality before the leadership vote could take place. In response to this action of the CPC, Grant decided to form a new party that would be truly conservative, including on social issues, and he subsequently ran in the federal riding of Durham (Ontario) in a by-election on March 4, 2024 as the United Party of Canada's first official candidate.
