Prior to entering the 2025 federal election campaign, Michael de Jong was a BC provincial MLA. Previously, in response to a question by a Catholic reporter, then-MLA de Jong defended both of B.C.'s abortion laws: The 2001 Abortion Services Statutes Amendment Act, and the 1996 Access to Abortion Services Act, also known as the 'Bubble Zone Law'. MLA de Jong said he was aware of the hostility of pro-life activists toward the two pieces of legislation, but that he saw the laws as just.

De Jong was in cabinet when his BC Liberal government brought in SOGI curriculum to homosexualize and trans the schools, and he never once spoke out against it.
