Official NDP policy is pro-abortion. Ashton voted against MP Stephen Woodworth's principled Motion 312 to study whether a child in the womb is a human being based on the preponderence of evidence from modern medical science. She also voted in favour of the reckless, transgender 'Bathroom Bill' (C-279) which, if passed, will put young girls and women at risk by creating a counterfeit, legal 'right' for men to access women's bathrooms and changerooms. Ashton was a member of the Status of Women Committee prior to the October 2015 Federal election. In December 2020, she voted to dramatically expand the euthanasia killing regime in Canada under Bill C-7. Then, on March 11, 2021, the entire NDP caucus actually voted AGAINST the horrible amended version of euthanasia expansion Bill C-7 that allows assisted suicide for people suffering from mental illness alone.

In June 2021, this MP voted against pro-life Bill C-233, introduced by Conservative MP Cathay Wagantall, to outlaw the horrific practice of sex-selective abortion, in which unborn babies are killed for no other reason than their sex.

Later that month, the MP disgracefully revealed herself to be an enemy of parental rights, and science, by voting to pass Bill C-6, legislation that will jail parents for up to 5 years if they dare to affirm their gender-confused child in their biological sex.
